My relationship with Outside is like a healthy relationship with an ex-girlfriend. I want the best for Outside. When good things happen to Outside, I’m happy and when Outside suffers some misfortune I feel sorry for Outside. I even enjoy spending time with Outside on occasion. But I do think that there need to be boundaries. And one of those boundaries, Hank, is that Outside is NOT ALLOWED INSIDE MY HOME.

Authenticity has NOTHING to do with pop music. That’s a belief system propagated by German music writers and humorless teenage assholes.

Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we’re quoting.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The Matrix
I think this will make any re-watching of the Matrix movies a lot better.

Many suffer from the incurable disease of writing, and it becomes chronic in their sick minds.

Comically weird
I have, over the years, had only a few awkward conversation with my parents
- the talk
- the time my mum asked me if I was gay
- the swapping university course talk
None have proven as difficult as explaining the White Violin.
The White Violin (WV) is a villian in the fun but mediocre The Umbrella Academy which is a comic book. WV came with the copy of the book I bought, it was cheaper to buy the toy and book set than just the book and the toy is handsome enough to not warrant just throwing away.
So when my mum asks what WV is telling her that it is a toy that came with a comic book was probably not the best tact.
I got the “isn’t a bit young for you approach”, then I said “graphic novel”, which she must have heard, or thought that it meant, pornographic and everything got a bit odd.
I mean Watchmen is more intricate and better written that Dan Brown but it does have a three-storey high blue man who wanders around naked killing the enemies of the USA, which is tough sell to a woman who is now thoroughly perplexed and worried about her son.
At this point she left muttering something about the Beano and Bunty.
Quite why the Dr. Who, Star Wars and Nintendo toys hadn’t concerned her before now, WV is a recent addition, I guess I’ll never know

Nostalgia is inevitably a yearning for a past that never existed, and when I’m writing there are no bees to sting me out of my sentimentality. For me at least, fiction is the only way I can even begin to twist my lying memories into something true.

Attention is the holy grail,” Mr. Strayer says.
“Everything that you’re conscious of, everything you let in, everything you remember and you forget, depends on it.— http://mobile.nytimes.com/2010/08/16/technology/16brain.xml
